1984 is about a middle aged man
named Winston who goes through several trails/events through his life. These
trails/events fallow a non-complex story path called the heroes journey. But
not all of these sad, romantic, and terrifying events fallow this journey and
that’s what I’m here to discuss.
In the begging Winston was just
another member of the simple yet so strict community. Just like the heroes
journey stated. He did what the party told him to do. he ate drank, slept and
worked as though he and all the other members in the community were zombies
forever owned by the party and of course big brother. According to the heroes
journey the begging states that the hero is part of the community brainwashed
since birth and embedded into the society until the middle...
In the middle of the book
Winston starts to realize that he doesn’t want to be a member of the society
and thus rebelled. This is a common event in hero stories such as harry potter
when instead of continuing to be a muggle he decides to become a real wizard
(not including the abuse his “parents” and their son put on him).Winston
started to realize the real truth about the life he was living and the people
controlling it.
In the end of the book the
story starts to take a turn from the heroes’ journey path. When Winston goes
into the torture room instead of bravery he provides fear, and ends up doing
irrational things because of fear. Such as giving away his true love to the
party. This is unlike the story line of the heroes’ journey because it states
that the hero either dies while making a huge sacrifice for their true love
etc. but in this case he ends up cowering and giving her up because he finally
faces his worst fear...rats.
In conclusion the heroes’
journey is a path that not all stories fallow ,but it is an important path
because it shows us how different stories can be and it helps us compare and
contrast hero stories witch helps us to think ,make observations, and even
write.
